Constructive afternoon for Geraldton and Bunbury building industries

Geraldton and Bunbury's building industries are invited to learn more about construction contracting, including options for resolving payment disputes, at seminars in February.

Run by the Building Commission in partnership with the Master Builders Association (WA) and Jackson McDonald, the seminars is suitable for subcontractors, small builders or other interested people in the building and construction industry.

The seminars will provide an understanding of how the Construction Contracts Act 2004 (CCA) operates, including the recent changes, and how rapid adjudication can be used to resolve contractual payment disputes.

Building Commissioner Peter Gow said, “As a subcontractor you may, from time to time, find yourself in a dispute with a client over payment for work you have done on a construction project.

“The client may be refusing to pay, withholding security or disputing the amount they owe.

“Recent changes to the Construction Contracts Act made it easier to access the rapid adjudication process for resolving construction payment disputes.

“Knowing your options and acting quickly is the vital first step to ensuring you get paid for the work you have done.”

Registrations for the seminars are now open. Places are limited. Visit the Building Commission website at www.commerce.wa.gov.au/building-commission/events-and-seminars (see ‘Getting paid: information sessions on the Construction Contracts Act 2004’) or phone 1300 489 099 for further information.

General information for subcontractors is also available on the website at www.commerce.wa.gov.au/building-commission/information-subcontractors.
