Application for approval of CPD elective activity

Elective activities must be approved by the Commissioner for Consumer Protection. Trainers are invited to submit professional development activities, which meet the aims and purpose of the CPD program, for approval as elective activities.

Training providers seeking approval for activities are requested to complete and submit this Application for Approval of CPD Elective Activity form, together with supporting training material for assessment.

When an activity is approved, it will be listed on the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety website. Agents and sales representatives can then choose the elective activities from the list that meet their training needs and provide the elective CPD points required under the program. 

Approvals are only granted until 31 December of each year. Training providers must seek approval for elective activities to be offered during each subsequent year.

To be considered for approval, activities must be relevant to at least one of the following subject areas listed in the Regulations:

  1. Agency agreements
  2. Auctions
  3. Business broking
  4. Business management practices
  5. Buyers’ agents
  6. Communication
  7. Conflict of interest and disclosure
  8. Customer service skills
  9. Disciplinary proceedings
  10. Law of contracts
  11. Managing agency risk
  12. Legislation regulating the carrying on of business as agent in Western Australia
  13. Property management
  14. Sale and lease of commercial property
  15. Sale process
  16. Strata management
  17. Trust accounting
  18. Understanding real estate documents

Training providers must issue participants with evidence of attendance on completion of a CPD activity and, if relevant, with evidence that any assessment was undertaken and passed. For compliance purposes the following information must be listed on the evidence of attendance document:

  • activity approval number;
  • name of training provider and registered training number if applicable;
  • activity title;
  • attendance date;
  • number of CPD points for which the activity is approved;
  • full name of the participant; and
  • the licence or registration number of the participant.

Training providers must notify Consumer Protection with attendance details by lodging the information via the on-line electronic lodgement facility within 14 days of the approved CPD course being conducted. Attendees who arrive more than half an hour late are not entitled to a certificate or CPD points.

If a submitted activity is not approved as a CPD elective, training providers may request a review of the decision. This request should be made in writing within 14 days after notice of the decision is sent.

Elective activities need to be approved in advance of delivery. Please ensure your application for approval is submitted at least one month before the activity is scheduled to be held to allow sufficient time for processing.
